The Story Behind SHEREN

OUR STORY SETS US APART

OUR BEGINNING

Sheren Plumbing & Heating, Inc. offers a wide array of design build services. From multi-family to high tech clean rooms and as such our team tailors each project to meet the needs of the client. Our innovated team of designers and installers make us a leader in the commercial HVAC industry.

Jerry Sheren was born and raised in the Hannah/Kingsley area and attended St. Mary’s School through high school. His great-grandparents from Germany homesteaded in the Kingsley area. Jerry enlisted in the Air Force right out of high school at the beginning of the Vietnam War right. Honorably discharged four years later, he became an apprentice plumber in Massachusetts under the GI bill. He started a family there and they moved backed to Traverse City in 1975. Two years later, he started Sheren Plumbing & Heating.

Along with his military experience (that introduced him to the field), Jerry has the licenses necessary to run a business (master plumbers, plumbing contractor, mechanical contractor and boiler). After almost 40 years of hard work and perseverance, Jerry is looking forward to semi-retiring to spend more time with family and at the family cabin in the UP. In the process of bringing in the second generation to run Sheren Plumbing and Heating, Jason Borchert, and Jerry’s older daughter, Beth, who was hired as part of his succession plan. Jason was the perfect fit for Jerry’s plan, with an engineering degree from Michigan Technological University, a professional engineering license, and years of project management experience. Beth has been involved in the family business in one form or another since she was 8 and started washing the company vans. She continues to use her accounting and real estate background to assist in growing the business as the Controller.

“Family is also important at Sheren and we have a culture conducive to our employees and their families.”

What’s unique about Sheren is our ability to start a project — whether it’s a simple furnace filter replacement or a complicated design/build for a commercial building — and provide 100% satisfaction.

Given our business expertise and nature of what we do, we advise residents to do the following.

Check filters twice a year, carbon monoxide detectors, etc. We offer service maintenance contracts that can be tailored for home or commercial building and may assist in preventing problems down the road. The customer will also be informed regarding the latest technology available such as a UV light to help scrub the air in their home of germs or thermostats you can control with your smartphone.

Jerry Sheren purchased Great Lakes Plumbing & Heating in August 2016 to remain competitive, but to also bring our high level of service to even more customers. Our Traverse City location will become the corporate headquarters with Petoskey and Indian River each having an office.

Sheren also believes in giving back to the communities in which we live. Both locations sponsor various non-profits throughout such as Paper Angel program through Child and Family Services, Freedom Builders, and the Humane Society.
